The Biggest Backyard in Texas…

The Biggest Backyard in Texas…

Have ya’ll been to downtown Burleson, Texas lately!? It is seriously cute! It has a mini Magnolia Silos vibe going on- PLUS a little something extra.

Downtown Burleson is doing it right! They have created such a charming and fun space for the whole family to spend time together outside. The farmers market was bustling, and there were families playing yard games in the large picnic and play areas. We saw multiple lounge areas with tables and chairs that had people kicking their feet up relaxing and watching the kids play. It was kind of Hallmark movie-like with how charming it was. Something unique about this downtown play yard were the two historic trolleys placed in the center of all the activity. These two vintage trolleys are from 1910 and 1912. For a special treat, walk a few steps over from the trolleys to the Burleson Visitor Center and request a tour. They are happy to give you a FREE tour, AND they throw in an “official” conductor certificate for your kids. The tour guide will share interesting stories about the history and of the trolleys, including how one prior owner turned them into their house. Check it out!

We didn’t pack a picnic on this outing, so it was time to search for food. I was pleasantly surprised at how many food options the city of Burleson had packed into such a tiny downtown area. We settled on brunch at The Porch, where we literally sat on the porch under some shade trees enjoying our meal. Now ya’ll know I love food, but let me say that breakfast/brunch foods are my all time favorite. I can eat it ALL. It takes me forever to order b/c I can’t decide which ONE thing I want to order. I finally decided on a Denver Omelet that came with a side of Texas- size pancakes. Any place that just throws in a stack of pancakes on the side of my savory dish is a winner in my book! The Mickey Mouse pancakes for the kids were a hit too!

It’s a good thing we fueled up, because we were going to need our energy for our next fun-filled activity. We drove about 10 minutes down the road to Mainstay Farm. Mainstay Farm dubs themselves the “biggest backyard in Texas” and I completely agree. I would love for my backyard to offer this much fun. It is basically a giant playland for kids and adults alike with themed activities centered around the seasons. All of our favorite things from swings, playgrounds, a maze, roller coasters, tractor and wagon rides, a ginormo sandbox, giant bails of hay for kids to jump on, bounce houses, apple launcher, race cars, goats and sheep to feed, and this doesn’t even scratch the surface of options for fun. If you are feeling extra adventurous, be sure to ride the Texas-size inner tube slide! We spent a couple of hours exploring and playing, but you could easily spend a full day out here. There are restrooms, food trucks, plenty of seating and shady areas. At the time we came there was also a wine truck for all you wine lovers! They have an ice cream and popsicle shop for a refreshing treat.

One of the real treats for the kids, was a butterfly release. Mainstay supplied the kids with a butterfly (with the purchase of a butterfly ticket that is separate from an admission ticket), and helped to instruct the children on how to open the envelope and let the butterflies fly away.

If you want to wear your kids out (and quite possibly yourself as well), you NEED to check out Mainstay Farm! My kids fell asleep so fast that night haha! Any season is a great season to visit this little slice of Texas. There is always something fun happening there! God bless Texas, and God bless Mainstay Farm helping to create a fun family memories!
