Texas Air museum at Stinson Field

Texas Air museum at Stinson Field

Whether you are a history buff, lover of all things transportation, or just like to explore new places, The Texas Air Museum at Stinson Field in San Antonio is for YOU! It is a very special opportunity to see aircraft and artifacts, mostly from the World War II era, upclose. If your visit consists of adults only, then take your time and easily spend hours strolling through the hanger reading through all the pilot biographies. There are several rooms to explore full of historical uniforms and weaponry. With my 3 young kids, we took the cliff notes version of the self paced tour, and skipped most of the reading lol. I would say we spent about an hour, maybe a tad longer in the museum.

There were model trains running, a vintage fire truck to admire, handfuls of large vintage aircraft, model airplanes, and tons more. If none of that catches your attention, an ADORABLE and loving dog named Snoopy will steal the show. My kids did NOT want to leave the museum because Snoopy couldn’t come with us. Snoopy happily escorted us around the hanger and even climbed in one of the simulator aircrafts with us. He clearly knows his way around the place.

If you are staying in San Antonio, like we were, then this is an EASY day trip in between meals. If you are road tripping and just driving through San Antonio, this would be an easy and fun stop to stretch your legs for a bit.

Owned and operated by veterans who volunteer their time, we showed our support by purchasing a few things from the gift shop and telling them how much we enjoyed touring the museum. They have done an excellent job preserving and maintaining all these historical pieces, while making it a family friendly place to visit. This is truly a very unique and vintage little slice of Texas. God Bless Texas and God bless our veterans!

Best time to visit-We went during the morning opening hours and there were very few people which made it very easy. However, we went in the Summer and there were only box fans running, no AC in the hanger. We found ourselves getting hot rather quickly. I would suggest going in Spring/Fall when the weather is cooler.

What I made sure to pack: water and snacks
