Springtime in the Hill Country-Burnet/Marble Falls

Springtime in the Hill Country-Burnet/Marble Falls

The butterflies were fluttering, the bluebonnets were emerging, and the sweet strawberries were ripe for the picking. It was a beautiful time of the year to head to the hill country. We recently hit the road and drove back to one of our favorite hill country coves in Burnet, Texas.

We visited Log Country Cove at Christmas and fell in love with it’s rustic charm and proximity to the lake (and other nearby activities) so much so, that we booked a return trip for the springtime. Log Country Cove offers a wide variety of cabins to choose from to fit your needs, from a two person cabin all the way up to family reunion size cabins. This time on our visit, we chose a hillside cabin named Belle Oaks. It had 3 King bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a large loft with 6 beds. We were able to fit 3 families in this cabin and it was just the right size. The pool and hot tub features were a huge hit with the kids and had easy access off the kitchen for carting out ALL the snacks. The backyard was a serene grassy meadow area where we were delighted to see deer munching in the evenings. Sunrises and sunsets here in the hill country are the BEST!

Most of our afternoons were spent swimming, but the crisp cool morning air was perfect for getting out and exploring. Our first morning there we decided to go to Inks Lake State Park. It was about an 8-10 minute drive up the road from our cabin. There was a lot of outdoor activity happening at this park! We saw loads of campers and people fishing, canoeing and hiking. My kids are obsessed with rocks and man did they hit the rock jackpot with this park. Massive rocks and boulders were everywhere for them to climb. A few areas did get a little steep, so use caution, but most of the trails we used were well marked and fairly easy. If you venture far enough, you are likely to spot some waterfalls along the way. There was a small entrance fee for adults for the day pass to the park.

Quick Notes: Wear closed toed shoes for hiking or water shoes if you are swimming. There are restrooms available inside the park.

The next day we chose to visit Sweet Berry Farm in Marble Falls as our morning activity. What an adorable farm it was and only about a 15 minute drive from the cabin. You can buy individual tickets when you arrive for as many of the farm activities as you want, OR opt to not do any of the farm activities and only pick strawberries or flowers. Then you would only pay for what you pick! The farm activities were cute and perfect for kids around 10 years old and under. They were all within close proximity to each other too, so you didn’t spend all your time huffing and puffing from one end of the farm to the other. After the kids bounced on the bouncy pillow thing (I never know what it’s called), we were all craving a sweet and refreshing treat. We grabbed some strawberry lemonade and a strawberry smoothie. YUMMY! That strawberry smoothie is a must order. A generous cup full of creamy dreamy strawberry goodness. It almost tasted like ice cream to me…and I’m very much ok with that.

Quick notes: There are picnic tables at the back of the farm if you want to pack a lunch. A short list of concessions are available. There are portable restrooms on the property.

Mornings exploring, afternoons swimming, and evening walks to the Log Country Cove dock to play and watch the sunset. Gosh y’all, I could get used to this. God bless Texas and God bless Springtime in the hill country!
