Resort Style the Texas Way…

Resort Style the Texas Way…

I feel like most of us have memories of going to camp at least a few times when we were younger. Meeting at the flagpole, doing arts and crafts, playing games like BINGO, singing songs, campfires, etc. Visiting Mitchell Resort & RV this weekend in Perrin, Texas brought back all those nostalgic memories and gave me ALL the feels.

The way Mitchell Resort & RV has perfectly blended the serene outdoor nature setting and the fun family camp adventure vibe together for families, really speaks to my soul. This felt like a “going to camp” experience elevated to the next level! Honestly, I did not even realize that a good handful of RV resorts offer lodging OTHER than an RV. When I saw that I could book a cottage at the Mitchell Resort & RV, and have full access to ALL the resort amenities, I was intrigued and excited to say the least! Did someone say amenities?? I like that word. It’s one of my favorite’s actually!

If you don’t have an RV, then you have the option to rent a cottage. There is also a tiny home and barndominium on the property for rent. The cottages were basic with two double beds, a full kitchen and bathroom with a stand up shower. I do have to say, I was impressed with the strong water pressure in the shower and how hot the water got! It’s the little things in life y’all! There was patio seating in the front and back of our cottage, which we utilized often.

Back to amenities…the MOST utilized amenity by our crew were the pools and waterpark. I say pools because there were 3 of them, plus a lagoon area and splash pad.

Directly next to the front office was the mini golf course. They made it super easy to grab a club and ball and go. This activity was a HUGE hit with kids and adults alike. It provided a nice shaded and mellow (depending on how competitive you are) activity in between our pool and waterpark outings. The putting greens happened to be conveniently located directly in front of our cabins, which turned out to be awesome entertainment in the morning while I was drinking my coffee, and the kids were playing. My daughter said she got 8 rounds of mini golf in during our 2 night stay!

One particular amenity surprised me on how popular it was…the golf cart! Please note, this was an added expense, but proved to be worth the money. Not necessarily worth it because of the size of the property, because actually it was a very easy property to get around, and very walkable. It was worth the money for carting food and towels to the pool, distracting cranky toddlers who skipped their naps, and for catching a nice breeze on the way out to the pond to see the gorgeous Texas sunset. The pond was excellent for skipping rocks, listening to frogs, or fishing if you bring poles.

Other fun things to do included the playgrounds, the jumping pillow, horse shoes, the water launcher, and the activity center. The resort has activities scheduled every day starting with the Pledge of Allegiance at the flagpole at 9am, and usually ending with a movie at 9pm. You can participate in as much or as little as you want. One night they had the cutest glow parade, and all the kids who brought bikes decorated them and rode them through the resort for us to see. Those kinds of small details are really what gave this experience a camp feel minus the actually camping part.

We met several families on the property who told us they were repeat visitors who love to visit, and I can see why. This resort has a family feel, which I LOVE, and is small enough to where you still feel like you and your friends and family can all hang out together and not be spread apart. This resort is in the growing process though, and had some construction underway during our visit. It did not interfere with any of our fun, and we look forward to coming back to see the progress. The future is looking bright for Mitchell Resort! They plan to add laser tag, gem mining, and a water obstacle course by the end of this year.

While we packed 2 coolers of food to eat, we were still curious about nearby local eats. Approximately 10 minutes away, we discovered Hashknife on the Chisholm Barbeque. What a great find! My daughter was even raving about how good it was! I knew it must have been some of the best, because we cleaned our plates down to the last crumb.

We will NEVER get tired of wide open spaces to run, fresh air to breathe, summer nights of miniature golf and ice cream, and a community that values less screen time and more play time outdoors with the ones you love. After a weekend full of sun and adventure, we were the BEST kind of exhausted. God bless Texas, and God bless Mitchell Resort & RV!
