Just When I Thought It Couldn’t Get Any Better…

I’ve had some fun alpaca experiences this year, but this one TOPS them ALL! This was an EPIC hands-on farm day that incorporated all the senses.

In the small town of Cross Roads, Texas sits the serene 23 acre TX-Ture Farm. TX-Ture Farm grows lavender, Christmas trees, honey bees, and alpacas. They offer candle making classes, beekeeping classes, alpaca fiber weaving classes, alpaca yoga (hello, yes please!), and much more! I signed up for the “walk-a-paca experience”. The price of a ticket included a 90 minute private guided tour for 6 people. If you split that between 2 families it can be more manageable on the wallet, but even if you don’t split the cost, it is worth the splurge!

The first thing you will notice as you are checking in at the barn, is the AMAZING aroma of lavender, soaps and bath salts.

After check-in the owner walked us over to the alpacas and introduced us to our new buddies for the day. Alpacas are quite skittish and shy, so we were given treat bags to help ease any of their anxieties.

After we got acquainted with each other, it was time to take the alpacas on a stroll. I was pleasantly surprised at how well my daughter did all on her own. She took the reins quite literally. I would say she and her alpaca, Mo, had a good vibe and rhythm going. We walked around the lavender fields, passed the bee farm, and on around to a wooded area along a creek. The owner and guide, Russell, was extremely kind and patient as we took our time exploring and stopping to give treats to the alpacas along the way. He was eager to tell us about everything on the property and to answer all of our questions.

After the walk, we took the alpacas back to the fenced in area, and had a little bit of free time with them. The kids used this time for play time, cuddle time, feed time, and ponder life time with their new alpaca buddies.

Sadly our time on this impressive farm came to close, but this is not goodbye forever, this is a see ya later! I’m super excited to come back for alpaca yoga and to hang out at their lavender festival coming up in a few weeks. They plan to have food trucks, live music, art, and of course, alpacas! Can you guess where we went next? If you said somewhere with food, you are right! Our tummies were growling after all that adventure! We drove about 5 minutes down the street to try Prairie House. What a great pick! Everyone loved the chips and brisket queso as a starter. I ordered a brisket sandwich with a veggie skewer. Y’all…I’ve had a lot of brisket sandwiches in my life, but this one put them to shame! The best blend of smoky meat and sweet sauce. The rustic lodge-like decor and ample outdoor patio seating were an added bonus. I am so glad we came here! We all had smiles on our faces after exploring this little slice of Texas. God bless Texas, and God bless TX-Ture Farm for setting the alpaca farm experience bar REALLY high!

This was a HALF day trip for me.
It took me approximately 50 minutes to drive to Cross Roads from the DFW area.
What I made sure to pack:
boots-thank goodness!!
snacks and water
**there ARE restrooms on the property

Have you visited Cross Roads, Texas before? How about TX-Ture farm? Tell me about your visit! Do you have questions about our visit? I’d love to answer your questions!
