A Great Day For A Bouquet…and BBQ!

A Great Day For A Bouquet…and BBQ!

Who doesn’t love a fresh bouquet of flowers? It’s extra special when you get to pick your own bouquet. It’s extra extra special when you turn the flower picking into a day trip adventure. It’s extra to the third power special when you get to support a small business.

Gemini Peach and Rose Farm is a 4 acre gem hidden right in the city of Denton, Texas. The owner, Jim, is there almost every day tending his garden. He was more than happy to show us around the property, pointing out the fruit of his labor, and also describing the detailed process of having a rose officially named after you or a loved one. It is a VERY detailed process, but sounds like a special way to honor someone. The first thing we noticed when we walked up were the rows and rows of roses. Absolutely gorgeous roses of every color. Jim showed us a rare green rose. We had never seen a green rose before.

Right now the roses are the only thing ready to be picked, but in just a couple of weeks the plums should be ripe and ready. The peaches will be ripe and ready in July. He also had grapes and tomatoes growing at the time of this visit. There is a babbling little creek that runs right through the garden which added a ton of charm and fun for the kids. Too bad I forgot to throw in the rainboots for this trip! Oh well, soggy socks never hurt anyone (that I know of).

Jim was so kind and accommodating with the kids. He encouraged them to swing on his bench swings, and took them to wave and say hi to the neighboring goats. He let us wander and take our time. All in all, I’d say we spent approximately 45 minutes in Jim’s garden. Next time we come, we will bring a picnic lunch to eat amongst the flowers and foliage. Jim has multiple picnic tables set up for families who want to do just that. The Gemini Rose & Peach Garden was an engaging and enchanting little slice of Texas. My kiddos picked their favorite roses and we were ready to head to lunch! Check out Gemini Rose & Peach Farm Facebook page for more information and details.

Not having a picnic lunch on this trip actually worked out to our favor. We found the CUTEST lunch spot on the way back! While I would have loved to explore more of Denton and all the cool experiences it has to offer, we didn’t have enough time for more exploring today. About halfway home we discovered this little treasure tucked away back behind a restaurant and coffee shop in Argyle, Texas called Bumbershoot Barbeque. Ya’ll, this place has great food plus a laid back and inviting atmosphere! An excellent place to take the kids and let them wiggle. Come back later in the evening for live music on the stage (on certain nights). I ordered the 2 meat combo and it was plenty of food for the 4 of us to share. The tender brisket and those smoky, peppery beans were my favorite. Also, it’s the first time I’ve ever had jalapeno carrots. Spicy for sure! It was ALL DELISH! I can’t wait to come back!

Gemini Rose & Peach farm is about a 40-45 min drive from the DFW area.
This was a HALF DAY trip:
What I made sure to pack:
cash-the stems were $1.00 each at this time
snacks & water
WISH I WOULD HAVE REMEMBERED: boots, a vase (he gave us a loaner), picnic lunch

While I would have liked to pack a little more exploring into my day, these two places were such pleasant surprises that we felt happy and fulfilled. I hope you get a chance to check them out! God bless Texas, and God bless Jim and his beautiful garden he so lovingly shares with us all!
