A Country-Like Alpaca Farm in the City

A Country-Like Alpaca Farm in the City

Ya’ll…Alpacas are a new thing for me. I mean, I knew they existed, but I knew nothing about them. I kind of assumed since they were in the camel and llama family, they would spit on me and charge at me and do… who knows what!?! Well, I was certainly wrong. This is the second Alpaca farm I’ve been to in a week, and we (the whole family) is slightly obsessed with these fascinating animals!

Nana’s Pacas in Flower Mound, Texas was such an educational experience as well as just a fun time on 4.5 acres for our family! Mr. Tom and Nana gave us a private tour of the grounds, and detailed history on how the Alpaca made its way to the United States, and what they are used for now. I also learned that Alpaca “fur” is actually referred to as fiber and is comparable to cashmere. SO SOFT!

This was a HALF day trip for us.
What I packed:
water bottles
snacks
cash (they do accept Venmo as well)
my boots

We arrived at 10am, and Mr. Tom and Nana were already in their driveway ready to greet us. They took us to meet Gus (pictured above). We pet him and fed him, and toured the property meeting all the other Alpacas. It is safe to say Mr. Tom is an Alpaca expert! We were flooded with so many neat facts about Alpacas…I mean, who knew they lived for 20 or 30 years!? Mr. Tom and Nana also sell their Alpacas if you are in the market for buying. I wasn’t quite sure how muddy it would be, so I wore my boots, but it was really more grass than dirt. I just like having an excuse to wear my cowgirl boots anyway lol.

The tour ended with Nana’s shop, where she HAND MAKES just about everything in the store from Alpaca fiber. We saw her beautiful wall hangings, shawls and wraps, decorative pieces, etc. I personally bought Alpaca dryer balls b/c, well, I needed some! Ha! We spent a little over an hour at Nana’s and I highly recommend you book a visit! This was a very easy and fun trip for us, not much packing involved and lots of time in the Springtime sun with sweet Alpacas.

Other quick notes about Nana’s Pacas:

  • Must make an appointment to visit. Appointments can be made on Nana’s facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/alpacas4me or search Nana’s Pacas in the search bar
  • Every tour is a private tour for you and your group
  • Parking is free, it’s located in their personal driveway
  • Entrance fee is $3 per person
  • Restrooms: No
  • Food options: No, but there are many dining options within 10 minutes of the property
  • Other activities: Getting to know the Alpacas and shopping the Alpaca merchandise are the only activities on the property, but you are minutes away from Grapevine Lake which offers parks and outdoor recreation. Also local playgrounds are within a 15 min drive.

What do Gus the Alpaca and myself have in common??? Well, not much other than the fact that we were both bundled up in our fibers this crisp cool morning. His was a little softer though lol! Temperatures in the low 50’s had me pulling out one of my absolute FAVORITE sweaters. I LOVE this sweater! I pretty much restocked my sweater inventory in my closet over the last few months thanks to Stitch Fix. I’ve been using Stitch Fix for a little over a year now, and it has been a Godsend through the pandemic. I almost never go into clothing stores any more, and certainly don’t try any clothes on in the stores I do visit. Shopping online for clothes can be difficult with sizing for sure too. Stitch Fix makes it so easy to set up your sizing with exact measurements, pick your style of clothes, set up a delivery day, and have a box of clothes (includes shoes too if you want) that a stylist picks for you, that shows up at your door. You have several days to try on the clothes, pick what you like and send the rest back in a pre labeled package. It seriously couldn’t be any easier, and kind of feels like Christmas Day each month when the box shows up at my door and I get to see what my stylist picked for me! My favorite part, is that there is NO subscription required. I think you will love it just as much as I do! Wish I would have signed up sooner actually! Get your closet Spring ready.
